The Centre for Migration Studies, University of Ghana, has successfully hosted the CMS@20 International Conference on Free Movement in West Africa, bringing together researchers, policy experts and practitioners from across Africa, Europe and beyond.
Held from 27 to 29 January 2026, the conference formed part of activities marking 20 years of the Centre’s contribution to migration research and policy engagement. The event was organised in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Global Mobility Law (MOBILE).
The Centre for Migration Studies (CMS), University of Ghana, has officially launched its year-long 20th Anniversary celebrations to reflect on its achievements over the past two decades. The milestone also provides an opportunity to chart a new course for migration and mobility research, training, and policy engagement across Africa.
Prof. Mary Boatemaa Setrana is Associate Professor of Migration and Social Change and Director of the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) at the University of Ghana. She also serves as the IDRC Research Chair on Forced Displacement in Anglophone West Africa, leading a multi-country project that strengthens knowledge and generates policy-relevant evidence on forced displacement across Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
